Homemade Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Citronella Insect Repellent

Citronella Mosquito RepellentWe recently moved to a new house in the mountains. While the fresh air is lovely and the view serene, the large mosquitos are a constant trial. Since we'll be living there for good, I didn't relish using chemically-formulated products for the rest of my life just to keep the mosquitos at bay.  First, I believe in their harmful effects to the body.  Second, I am pro-ecology and I much prefer going organic and natural as much as possible.

I remembered using an organic citronella-based mosquito repellent or insect repellent before and it worked. Since I couldn't find that product anymore, I decided to hit the internet for some simple do-it-yourself recipes. Here's what I found:

INGREDIENTS:

2 cup witch hazel
1 1/2 teaspoons citronella essential oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

INSTRUCTIONS:  Combine into a 16 oz spray bottle. Shake vigorously before using. Requires no refrigeration. Apply liberally.

It was so easy!  And the citronella as a mosquito repellent and insect repellent works to keep those large mosquitos away from us all.  We are also planting some citronellas outside the house for constant vigilance.

If you also have mosquito problems in your homes, do consider this easy recipe.  It's way healthier and cheaper.  The less chemicals we use and release into the environment, the better as well.  Let's live responsibly!
